Boss Hunting 101
So here goes :P Preparing for Boss Hunting Make sure you have low lvl, non star pets on you and some mana pots. Its best to have a few low lvl pets with you incase one dies so you can easily replace it with another one. If you know what lvl of bosses you are hunting make sure your low lvl pets are within 3 lvls beneath the lowest boss's lvl. Example: If I'm hunting Poltergeist bosses the lowest boss lvl would be lvl 41 so I would want to have lvl 38 or below pets. Have a high lvl pet with you as well, preferable a mage pet that has windbeads as a skill. Also find a boss that is lower in lvl then your character so it won't deal as much or any damage to your character. For mages have your thunder or lightening skill in one of the F slots at the bottom of your screen. For warriors have a pet that has these skills and drag them into one of the F slots.
Nearly all monsters have 3 bosses so lets take Poltergeist lvl 40 monsters for example. The bosses for these monsters would be: Lvl 41 Refined Lvl 42 Unique Lvl 43 Elite The quality is determined by the type of gears that boss will drop, such as a refined boss will drop only refined gears. When you have found a boss its icon will appear on the bottom right hand corner of your screen with a low kill number. And the boss usually has its lvl in its name. It will also be the one that you do very little damage too when you attack it.
When you have found the boss set up your character to tank for your pets. Meaning you has the boss attack your character while you weaken the boss so that the boss won't attack your pets. Summon your high lvl pet and use thunder or lightening to weaken the boss's health (the red color in the bar) till it's nearly gone. Using thunder or lightening is good because it is more precise as a skill as you don't want to accidentally ko your boss. Once its health is low enough uncommon your high lvl pet and summon your low lvl one. Let that pet attack it on its own. This may take a few minutes, as the low lvl pet won't cause as much damage. If monsters suddenly appear around you and go to attack your pet just use thunder/lightening to get rid of them. As a mage its easier to do this because we can use our own skills to do that, but as a warrior you have to summon a mage pet to do that and it can be risky as that pet my accidentally kill your boss. Once the monsters are dead unsummon your high lvl pet and continue letting your low lvl pet attack the boss. As long as it's the low lvl pet that has the final blow on the boss you are more likely to get good drops.
Because warriors can't use mage skill unless they have a mage pet I have found another way that they can boss hunt and still get some good drops. :) This method is a bit tricky but works pretty well. 1: Make an alt character and lvl it to lvl 30, preferable a mage one so you can use sneak for your alt. 2: Log in both your main character and that alt. 3: Make a team with your main as leader and have your alt join, then close team so you don't get 'join team' spams from other people. Also make sure you have the 'pick up gold/gems/gears' options turned ON in your team and have your alt carry a few town scrolls as well equipped to one of the slots at the bottom of your screen. 4: Keep your alt in a safe enough place away from monsters. 5: Using your main look for a boss. 6: When you have found a boss set your main to tank. 7: Quickly switch screens to your alt and use sneak (if alt is mage) and make your way towards your main character. 8: Once your alt has arrived at your boss location switch back to your main and summon your high lvl pet and weaken the boss. (You may have to switch back to your alt quickly to use sneak again so monsters don't attack it.) 9: Once the boss is weak enough unsummon your pet and continue tanking. Switch back to your alt and summon its low lvl pet(s) and have them/it attack the boss. 10: Once the boss is dead use your alt to pick up the items right away or use your main to pick them up, either one is fine. Use a town scroll and go to your warehouse right away to bank your items. Both warriors and mages can use either method so use the one that suits you.
Not every single boss you find will drop stuff. Some don't drop anything at all in fact. But don't give up! Its worth the effort as the rewards is good. :) Some things you may find being dropped by bosses Gold Gears (equips...the quality depends on the boss itself) Amethyst Ametrine Philosopher Gem Eggs (I have only found common white eggs being dropped from bosses) Gems (this has rarely happened for me but I have seen a few fluorites and such being dropped by a boss.
